As one of the nation's first Physician Assistant programs, MEDEX Northwest has a 50-plus-year history of recruiting, educating, and deploying second-career students into underserved regions in service of its mission to improve healthcare outcomes. MEDEX Northwest offers a Master of Clinical Health Services degree and is a department within the University of Washington School of Medicine. PAs are medical professionals who diagnose illness, develop and manage treatment plans, prescribe medications, and often serve as a patient's principal healthcare provider under the direction of a physician. MEDEX Northwest has five permanent classrooms in the states of Alaska, Hawaii, and Washington, and students train clinically in rotations throughout those states and in Montana and Wyoming where they work directly with patients in rural and urban underserved areas.
